Frequently Asked Questions
What's a shorty wetsuit for?
Enjoy your favourite watersport for longer with a Men's shorty wetsuit, these will add extra insulation and warmth over just board shorts and a rash vest on chilly summer days, or while on holiday just needing a little extra protection from the wind or UV sun's rays, the shorty wetsuit is suitable for most watersports.
Lots of cold water swimmers will use a shorty wetsuit on colder days just to protect their core and give them a little insulation, whereas most other watersports will only use a shorty for a few months of the year in the UK once the water has reached its warmest temperatures, or for a trip abroad to warmer waters.
A men's shorty wetsuit is the easiest style of suit to put on and off due to the short sleeves and knee-length legs, this also makes them very comfortable to wear and great for swimming, surfing and all watersports in warmer waters.
Do shorty wetsuits keep you warm?
Men's shorty wetsuits come in lots of styles chest and back zip as well as long-sleeved versions these are called spring suits. Most shorty wetsuits will be made from 2mm or 3mm neoprene and this will offer enough warmth for their designed range of use, this would be about 17 degrees water temp for a men's shorty wetsuit in the UK.
We sell a large range of wetsuits from the leading brands O'neill, C-Skins & Mystic who only use premium neoprene to make their suits, but still offer an affordable range as well as the very best you can buy.
How should a shorty wetsuit fit and what should I wear underneath?
If you are new to wearing a wetsuit they should be snug fitting and cling to you like a second skin, but not feel restrictive or cause any rubbing. A rash vest can be worn underneath these are a Lycra tight-fitting top to eliminate any underarm rubbing, or on very hot days a rash vest can be worn by itself to block and protected you from the UV rays.
If you are a surfer, swimmer or water sports enthusiast, the ideal wetsuit is essential for your comfort. Shorty wetsuits with long sleeves provide extra warmth and coverage, are suitable for any water activity and are popular with surfers as when sitting on the board their legs are in the warm water, but the long-sleeved shorty keeps and cold breeze off. These wetsuits also offer a great range of movement leaving the surfer very flexible.
Can you wear a shorty wetsuit under a full wetsuit?
This is not advised as it will probably cause the suit to rub and will limit your movement. If you feel cold in any style of wetsuit it's time to move up to the next thickness of neoprene to give you more insulation. You may want to look at our full-length summer Wetsuits.
